I'm going abroad for a while and wanted to get a factory unlocked iPhone 5S before leaving, but it appears that the factory unlocked iPhones won't be available for a 1-2 months. So I've decided to purchase a used iPhone 5 instead. However, when looking at listings for used iPhones, I noticed that there are numerous descriptions when it comes to \"unlocked\" iPhones. It seems that there are carrier unlocked phones, meaning the iPhone was once locked to a particular cell phone carrier in the US and was later unlocked by the owner with the assistance of the carrier, or there are iPhones that came unlocked from Apple. I want to buy the later, not the former. However, some people do not disclose whether the phone is \"carrier unlocked\" or \"factory unlocked\" in their advertisement, while it seems that others are being purposely deceptive. Is there a way to definitively identify whether an iPhone 5 is factory unlocked, meaning it came unlocked from Apple Are there particular model numbers that specify a factory unlocked iPhone 5 I called Apple and the reps could not give me this information. It seems that there should be model numbers that specify whether an iPhone 5 came factory unlocked when purchased. Thanks for your help.
There is no possibility to find out if it was factory unlocked by model number. Note that once the device has been unlocked, it will work with any other carrier, regardless it was locked by the carrier before or factory unlocked.
Hmm.....I don't know if it's true that \"carrier unlocked\" and \"factory unlocked\" are the same. I had an iPhone 4S that was carrier unlocked (Verizon) and I tried to use it in China, and it was not very easy getting it to work. Furthermore, it's my understanding that the carrier unlocked phones and the factory unlocked phones do not support the same LTE bands, which is why you can use an AT&T carrier unlocked phone on AT&T in the US, but you cannot use a factory unlocked phone on the AT&T network in the US. I don't want to take any chances of getting abroad, only to find out that my phone doesn't work. So I would prefer to buy only a factory unlocked iPhone. Also, I found this information, although I do not know if it is accurate or up to date:
Your iPhone might be locked to your carrier. Unlocking your iPhone means that you can use it with different carriers. To contact your carrier and unlock your iPhone, use these steps. You can find out if your iPhone is locked by going to Settings > General > About. If \"No SIM restrictions\" appears next to Carrier Lock, your iPhone is unlocked.
Your iPhone may be locked to your network provider. Unlocking your iPhone means you can use it with different network providers. To contact your network provider and unlock your iPhone, follow these steps. You can find out if your iPhone is locked by going to Settings > General > About. If \"No SIM restrictions\" appears next to Network Provider Lock, your iPhone is unlocked.
iPhone 5 owners who opted for the Verizon model have discovered the device ships with an unlocked nano-SIM card slot, even if the device was bought under contract at a subsidized rate and did not pay the full unlocked price. This is excellent news for travelers or for anyone who wants to immediately get access to an unlocked iPhone 5 without waiting for them to be officially available.
You can perform a DFU restore even if the phone does not belong to you, and the passcode lock will still be removed. However, if the phone is iCloud-locked or blacklisted, these statuses will not be unlocked or removed by a DFU restore.
You need to contact the local police station to see if it has been reported missing or stolen and to ask if they want to keep it as evidence. If you cannot locate the owner and the police do not need the phone, you can contact one of these stores to sell the iPhone.
If you have a finance blacklisted phone you want to get rid of, SellLocked will take it. SellLocked will check the phone out and give you a price. If you agree, SellLocked will mail a prepaid label so you can ship your phone for free. Once the phone has arrived, they will pay you within five days. Payment is sent as a check or through PayPal.
On what part of the iPhone 5 is the Apple ID information stored I want to know what chip or part to remove in order to would remove all info about Apple ID (to get past the iCloud Lock). Would changing the Logic board (from an iPhone without the lock) remove the problem Is there any other way to unlock such an iPhone Thank you!
I asked because I wa thinking to buy one of those very cheap iPhone 5's from ebay that are locked from iCloud. My idea was to buy one that's locked and another unlocked logic board. Put it in and have working iPhone 5 for very little money. + I clould get one that's from verizon and has bad ESN(even cheaper) and use it here in Europe on GSM. Do you think changing logic board would fix problem
I agree, 50$ for a not locked, functioning iphone 5 logic board is suspicious as !@#$. In China the trend is around 2000 CNY which is more than 300$. Even with that price, nobody guarantees the board is not taken from replaced phones or registered with icloud. Anything cheaper than that probably gets you into trouble
Yes very possible in fact did it today. If its your first time working on an iphone, here is a little hint I wish someone told me 3 years ago. GET A PAIR OF 3X READING GLASSES from the dollar store. It will save you so much grief.
Just wanted to let everyone know this worked very well for me! I bought a phone that was in perfect condition with the only drawback being activation lock, and a shattered phone that did not work, but had non-activation locked logic board. I merely put the clean logic board from the broken phone into the clean phone and boom, the phone worked perfectly having all the contents from the shattered phone inside the clean phone. You will need certain tools to do this but those can be easily bought on amazon. Good luck!
Get an unlocked iPhone and then get another locked iPhone, solder the unlocked chips off locked one and re-solder them on the unlocked one, now get other chips off unlocked iPhone and solder them on locked iPhone, WAIT.
Magic solution, pick up unlocked iPhone in left hand and now concentrate as this is very difficult part, pick up locked iPhone in right hand, put contents of left hand in right hand and contents of right hand in left hand now in left hand you have locked iPhone and in right hand you have unlocked iPhone.
One locked imperfect condition one that's inlocked got ran overthe original plan was to swap screens but once you get th open and screens removed you see a lot of differences even the battery's are different voltage and what not. The one is locked because it was lost. Can you swap parts over and what are needed to be swapped. Also I just want to add to the really dumb peranoid comments above. Apple does not have iPhone police nor will they ever. .Really this find phone function is pretty useless other than you can temporarily disable the phone. So I want to keep the parts that the screen plugs into on locked phone but everything to the home button I want gone and retro fit the unlocked phones parts that are different slightly but different non the less into the locked one thus making it nice shiny new and functional. Don't say I can't because I'm gonna just looking for some advice. I'm not techy I'm just a tile setter so if I'm doing this I know someone else has had to have done it. Thanks in advance now go!
I have iphone 5s clean without icloud.. but first its on red screen then i flashed it then it stucked on itunes logo and itunes error 4013.. and i also know the solution is that remove nand and reprogram it.. but my question is that if i replace the nand flash only from other unlock phone that will work or not
Will a sprint prepaid phone, or any prepaid phone work on Us Mobile if I bought a semi-new(condition new, but manufactured two years ago) on Amazon and inserted your SIM card would it work Can a locked phone be unlocked by Us Mobile How do I tell if a phone is locked

If you're in the market for a new smartphone, you'll almost certainly come across the term \"unlocked phone.\" What exactly is an unlocked phone, and how can you tell if it's unlocked Do you even want an unlocked phone, and if so, is it secure to use We provide answers to all of your burning questions.
A smartphone that has been unlocked can be used with any cell phone carrier. Some phones aren't unlocked, meaning they can only be used with one carrier. That is not the case with an unlocked phone. However, a phone's network compatibility is only relevant for mobile phone carriers, not wireless networks like WiFi. Any phone, whether unlocked or locked, can connect to a WiFi network as long as that WiFi is operational.
When traveling, it makes international SIM cards simple to use. Phones that have been unlocked are free to connect to any network in the globe. The instructions for changing SIM cards for your phone model will be available from most providers. 59ce067264
