After you have completed copying your windows XP CD you will need to create a boot image by extracting it from your existing XP CD. To do this, have your XP CD inserted in your computer and start ISOBuster. When the program starts you will see a screen similar to the following. If you do not, change the selected drive so that it is pointing to the drive that contains your Windows XP CD.
NOTE: If there are drivers for other versions of windows, for example Vista or 64 bit drivers, do not install them as it will cause file load errors. If you do select them, nLite will notify you of the problem.
You are now ready to burn the Windows files to your a bootable DVD. If you will be using Nero to create this DVD, then you can continue to the next section. Otherwise, you can skip ahead to instructions on how to use the free nLite utility to create your DVD.
In the right hand pane you will navigate to your slipstreamed location, C:\\XPCD, and left-click once on it to select it. Then select all of the files in the right-hand pane and drag them into the left-hand pane. When this is completed, click on the Burn button in the top menu bar. Nero will create the bootable CD for you and you will now have a Slipstreamed Windows XP SP3 CD or DVD!
Now that you have learned how to make a bootable Windows installation disc you can make an install or reinstall process much quicker and secure. Using a disk like this you can now install Windows XP and be at a high patch level so that your freshly installed operating system is less vulnerable to malware and hackers. This also enables you to go to locations where there is not a lot of bandwidth and install Windows with all of the latest service packs installed so you do not have to wait for a long time while the service pack downloads. If you have any questions regarding this process, or tutorial, please feel free to ask us in the Windows XP forum.
If you have bought an off-the-shelf computer recently, chances are that it came with Windows preloaded onto the system. Unfortunately, many of these systems with Windows preinstalled do not come with a Windows setup CDROM; at best they include a Recovery Disk thatrestores the system to its shipping condition. If you plan to reformat and do a clean installation of yoursystem, you might think that you have to buy another additional Windows XP licence even though you have already paid for one for thatsame machine. This article shows you how you can re-create a usable and bootable Windows XP installation CD using your running system.
This is essential. Without this, the procedure outlined on this page will not work. To find out whetheryou can use the steps listed on this page to re-create your bootable Windows XP setup disk, look for into yoursystem drive (usually the C: drive), and see if you can find a folder named I386 in the root directory. That is, see if you have the C:\\I386 folder on your hard disk.
You will also need the boot sector of an existing bootable Windows 2000, XP or 2003 setup CDROM. The easiest way to get this is to downloadthe file wxp10.zip from [this location] (link removed, see below). In fact, you should do this now. Download the file and save it on your desktop. You will need the file later.
Create a temporary working folder at the root (top) of the C: drive called \"XPSETUP\" (without the quotes). Actually, you can name it anythingyou want and put it anywhere you like, but for ease of explanation, the remainder of the steps below will assume that you havecreated the XPSETUP folder in the root of drive C:. This C:\\XPSETUP folder will be where you will create the CDROM directory structure for your bootable Windows CD.
At this point, the C:\\XPSETUP directory contains all the files that will be copied to yourWindows Setup CDROM. Don't worry if the directory does not contain files like \"setup.exe\" whichyou see on the retail CDROMs. You won't need it for a fresh install from the bootable CDROM. Note: You will only have \"setup.exe\" if youhad to slipstream Service Pack 2 as mentioned earlier. The Service Pack 2 slipstreamer creates setup.exe for you.
At this point, the bootable Windows setup disk will be created. To use it, place the CD into the CD drive, make sure your BIOS is set to boot first from yourCD drive, and reboot. Voila, if all goes well, the Windows installer starts up and you're on the way to reinstalling your system.
expand :\\i386\\ntkrnlmp.ex_ :\\Windows\\system32\\ntoskrnl.exeNote In these two commands, the placeholder represents the drive letter of your CD drive, and the placeholder represents the drive letter of the hard disk on which windows is installed.
A boot entry is a set of options that defines a load configuration for an operating system or bootable program. The boot entry specifies an operating system or bootable program and the location of its files. It can also include parameters that configure the operating system or program.
However, things have moved on, and for the first time, Microsoft has begun to sell Windows 10 on pre-configured USB drives. Previous versions of the OS (XP, 7 and 8.1), all require the user to create their own bootable USB drive.
Creating a bootable Windows USB drive used to be a chore, but today, one solution can pretty-well suit most people. However, there are times when a flash drive has some quirk that prevents it from working with a particular solution, so for that reason, this article takes a look at five different methods.
If you plan to install Windows 10 on a new system, use it to recover an existing system, or upgrade a previous install of Windows 7 or 8, creating a bootable flash drive is the first step. Windows 10 is the first Microsoft OS that not only natively supports USB installs, but encourages it and even sells USB drives ready-to-go.
The Media Creation Tool can can be used to just download the ISO image of Windows 10, which can then be used with something like Rufus to create the bootable USB drive. This offers the advantage of being able to keep a backup of the ISO image, as well as create multiple boot drives without having to download the image each time. If you run into problems with the Media Creation Tool when it comes to creating the bootable flash drive, you can use the following method.
Mostly, any bootable media is used to troubleshoot an issue on Windows or boot it when the firmware has been corrupted. Since it will reinstall a fresh copy of Windows on the system by performing a factory reset, a lot of people avoid it. Also, it takes a lot of time and effort to format a hard drive by using the bootable media as there are other ways to do it.
Once the bootable CD is created, restart your system, and make sure that the CD is inserted. When your system restarts, press and hold the BIOS key, which could be F2, F8, F10, DEL, ESC, or any other option.
Afterward, you can just restart your system and simply let the bootable media load the respective wizard. From here, you can choose to reinstall the firmware, repair it, or restore a previous image. To format the system, you can launch the Command Prompt instead.
This brings us to the end of this extensive guide on how to format a Windows XP hard drive without a CD. As you can see, you can easily format the system or the non-system disk on Windows with or without a bootable CD. Besides that, if you have formatted the drive by mistake and have lost your data, then consider using Recoverit Data Recovery to get your files back.
Good day. I have a dimension 8300 with windows xp pro. My computer was recently attacked and ended up with the blue screen of death. I had a friend look at it and he brought it back to life. Although some things like task manager didn't work and being slower than a rock, it is working. Unable to do a system restore, I decided to reinstall the windows os. After much pain, I have removed my files, pics and tunes. After some lite reading I decided to try the PC restore for windows xp. When I get to step 3. When the Dell splash screen appears during thecomputer startup process, press and hold and then press. Then, release both keys at the same time. I get no response and the computer just goes ahead and starts up. I have tried 10+ times. I then figured the key strokes are not working or you do not have PC Restore any more. You will have to do a manual reinstall.
Consolidate as many diagnostic tools as possible into one bootable CD. Wouldn't you like to avoid digging into the dusty box to look for the right floppy disk, but simply run them all from a single CD Then the Ultimate Boot CD is for you!
